===================================================================

*SETUP DECISIONS*

Some of early decisions you should make before you start entering data are if you wish to use the Sr ACCOUNTANT's standard Chart of Accounts, standard Format (Template) file and Source Codes file or if you wish to change them to your own standards.

If you wish to change them, run Sr ACCOUNTANT and make the changes you wish to the Master Copies. Consider here the Master Accounts, Formats and Size of the G/L number and Sub-Ledger number. Print out the Standard Charts of Accounts and Formats and note the changes you wish to make. Note in the Maintenance of the Master Accounts and Formats there is a way to toggle between the Master Copy files and the Data files (this option is not explained in the manual).

Remember to change the name of the company to the one you wish as the first thing you need to do on any removable disk or company directory.

===================================================================

*SYSTEM Requirements*

You need an IBM or IBM-compatible, protected-mode 486 40mz or higher computer using DOS 3.3x, 4.01, 5.0, 6.0 or Windows 95 operating system.;  6mb of RAM minimum, 8mb of RAM recommended and a hard disk with 10mb of free disk space to install Sr Accountant files.

===================================================================

*COPY Original diskettes*

First make a Working Copy of the diskette(s) you have received with Sr ACCOUNTANT. To do this place protection tabs on the original diskette(s), then booted your system with MS(PC)-DOS in the normal manner. Next take two new diskettes, marking one "ZARCOM SYSTEM DISK [WORKING COPY]" and the other "Sr ACCOUNTANT MASTER [WORKING COPY]".

Now make a copy of the Original diskettes using your MS(PC)-DOS, with the disk drive prompt showing, type:

and press the <Enter> key.

or

if you only have one removable disk drive.

When the DISKCOPY program prompts you, place the Original diskette in Drive A and the Working Copy diskette in drive B or follow the instructions on the screen to copy the diskette using only one drive. When you have copied all the diskettes, remove all the diskettes and store the originals in a safe place.

*OPERATION SUGGESTIONS*

Backups

We have included a batch file on the Update disk. The file is named ZSBACKUP.BAT. To use this batch file you will need PKZIP.COM, a compression program made by PKWARE Inc. and to copy the ZSBACKUP.BAT to the each data directory where the Sr ACCOUNTANT data is.

To activate the batch file, you can run it from the DOS command level from the directory where the data is by typing:-

          ZSBACKUP

and press [Enter]. The other way to activate the Backup is to run Sr ACCOUNTANT, and from the MASTER MENU press [O] and the [B] from the UTILITIES MENU. The batch file is pre-set to use drive A:, you can use an editor like DOS's EDIT.COM or Windows NOTEPAD and change this to drive B: if you wish.

To obtain PKZIP, insert the UPDATE disk in your floopy drive and change to that drive then type:-

          PKVIEW

and press [Enter]. This will give you the address and telephone number of PKWARE Inc. Also you can use the INTERNET and contact PKWARE at http://www.pkware.com/ and obtain a FREE evaluation copy.

Memory Management

For those of you that are running the  Sr ACCOUNTANT (Version 4.5), to activate or deactivate the caching program (caching makes your computer run faster). Find the directory where the RUNTIME.EXE program is, at the > prompt type: This will give you three options:- For those of you that have Sr ACCOUNTANT (Version 5.0). The caching is automatically used by Sr ACCOUNTANT.
