Using a hard drive for both the program and different folders for the data

This SETUP will allow you to have a different set of data files for each company in a different folder (directory). If you are using Windows 95 or Windows 98, use the Explorer to create your folders, either as a sub-folder to the PAYTIME folder or as a new folder. For DOS and older versions of Windows,

Change the directory: cd\PT\XYZ and press [Enter]

where PT is the folder where the PAYTIME program files are and XYZ is where you want to put the DATA files in.

Type in the following commands (or use Explorer):

If you are using  Windows 95, you also need to add the \PT folder to the PATH command in your AUTOEXEC.BAT in the route folder on your hard drive. If your operating system is DOS use the EDIT.EXE program to modify the AUTOEXEC.BAT; or, if you are use the NOTEPAD. Add the following line after the first path command:

PATH %path%;c:\PT;

You could change this batch file to XYZ.BAT (where XYZ is the companies initials)

If you are using the PAYTIME xxxx (Version 5.0), in the \PT\XYZ folder create a  XYZ.BAT (where XYZ is the companies initials):

To run PAYTIME  with the C> prompt showing, choose the \PT\XYZ folder and type: or, if you are using Windows create a Shortcut to the PT.EXE, JT.EXE or the XYZ.BAT files.

Now follow the instructions in the PAYTIME manual in Section C, under 'OPERATIONS:Getting Started', or read the "Using a hard drive for both the program and the data" above.

*OPERATION SUGGESTIONS*

Backups

We have included a batch file on the Update disk. The file is named ZSBACKUP.BAT. To use this batch file you will need PKZIP.COM, a compression program made by PKWARE Inc. and to copy the ZSBACKUP.BAT to the each data directory where the PAYTIME data is.

To activate the batch file, you can run it from the DOS command level from the directory where the data is by typing:-

          ZSBACKUP

and press [Enter]. The other way to activate the Backup is to run PAYTIME, and from the MASTER MENU press [O] and the [B] from the UTILITIES MENU. The batch file is pre-set to use drive A:, you can use an editor like DOS's EDIT.COM or Windows NOTEPAD and change this to drive B: if you wish.

To obtain PKZIP, insert the UPDATE disk in your floppy drive and change to that drive then type:-

          PKVIEW

and press [Enter]. This will give you the address and telephone number of PKWARE Inc. Also you can use the INTERNET and contact PKWARE at http://www.pkware.com/ and obtain a FREE evaluation copy.

Memory Management

Earlier versions of PAYTIME required memory caching, but the caching is automati for current versions of PAYTIME.
